LEGO Robotics, Mixed - Portland0

$350

with Michelle Lane

Calendar Jun 20, 2022 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

IMPORTANT: This camp session is being offered through the Portland Public Schools for Portland Public School children. Do NOT enroll in this camp if you do not attend a Portland Public School.

This camp is for any level of LEGO Roboteer! So if you are a rookie or a veteran this camp can take you and help move your skills forward. We start off with some basics since even the veterans have often forgotten a lot since last year, and of course some beginners are more advanced. Our camp staff try as quickly as possible to figure out which you are. Usually one staff member will be working primarily with the beginners and one primarily with the advanced, with the third floating as needed.

Open to ages 9 to 12, no experience needed.

2022 ALL CAMPS ARE BEING PLANNED FOR IN-PERSON.

Using AI and Computer Vision - Portland0

Free

with Ahmad Tafti

Calendar Jun 20, 2022 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Object Detection; Computer Vision; Self Driving Cars; Artificial Intelligence... if these sound like a cool thing to be learning about and getting real world experience in, then check out this year's offering out of the USM Dubyak Center for Digital Science and Innovation.

In this summer class/camp, you will learn -from scratch- about YOLO (“You Only Look Once”) which is a precise and effective real-time object recognition algorithm. We will discuss an object detection mechanism in practice with several hands-onpractices starting from manual image annotation to programming and implementation to make YOLO up and running. We, together, will explore what YOLO computational vision algorithm is, what is does, and how.

The USM 2022 Summer Class on AI-Powered Object Detection program is structured such that besides attending lectures, the students will be also working in teams on a project assignment. The team projects will be evaluated by a committee of the summer program, and there will be three awards in the end of the summer school.

Half of each day class will be devoted to lectures, with the remaining time used for practical work in teams on solving object detection in digital images.

For a full description, you can check out the PDF document for more info.

Offered free due to donations from the USM Department of Computer Science.

Open to students currently enrolled in high school (grades 10, 11, and 12).

2022 ALL CAMPS and CLASSES ARE BEING PLANNED FOR IN-PERSON.

IF REQUIRED DUE TO STATE OF THE PANDEMIC, THE CAMPS WILL BE ONLINE OR HYBRID THIS SUMMER. If conditions require online or hybrid operations, all camper families will have the opportunity to cancel for a full refund. If camps are offered in person, then normal cancellation policy remains in effect.

3D Printing and Design - Bangor1

$610
Calendar Jul 5, 2022 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Did you ever wonder how people made all those cool 3D objects? Whether board game pieces or parts of a machine, these parts start as an idea in your imagination, then turned into a 3D object on a computer, and finally are printed on a 3D printer.   At the 3D Design and Printing Camp you’ll do all of these things AND build and take home your own 3D printer! Learn the basics of 3D design using SketchUp or TinkerCAD; save your designs and then export them to the 3D printer.

For 2022 we're looking at either the Ender 3 Pro with the auto leveling kit or the Ender 3 Pro V2, but it's too early to see which one will in budget come the spring and which one will be available. Maybe we'll get lucky and be able to do the Ender 3 Pro V2 AND the auto leveler.

Learn about calibrating the machines; starting and finishing the print; fixing errors; and all the details that make 3D printing both challenging and rewarding.  At the end of the week you get to take home your new printer, all the cool things you’ve created, even some 3D filament to use!

Open to ages 12 to 16.

This camp has been pro-rated for 4 days (equipment charges are the same, but we reduce it by 20% for the non-equipment cost)

Programming in Minecraft - Augusta1

$300
Calendar Jul 5, 2022 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

With over 110,000,000 monthly users, and over 200,000 servers running in the world (some 8,000 at any one time), Minecraft has become one of the world’s top games, and certainly the top creative game.

There are over hundreds of thousands of people playing Minecraft at any moment! You probably know lots of people who spend time creating houses, roads, towns, mines, as well as gather experience points by battling monsters (mobs). What if you could start learning how to change what you are doing, not just playing with what the game comes with?

In the Programming in Minecraft Camp we will be using the software to start learning how to modify the gaming environment. There will also be time to "just play the game", but the focus will be on learning new skills that relate to programming in the environment.

Depending on the instructor and the campers, we will also spend time with basic computer logic and an introduction to computer languages.

You do not need to have a Minecraft account, but you should bring your login information with you if you have an account so you can play as yourself.

Open to ages 10 to 14
